How can you guarantee quality?

“How can you guarantee quality?” is one of the most frequently asked questions when managers are exploring the possibility of working with freelancers.

As we all know, there’s no standard quality measuring tool to assess a candidate’s skills and suitability for a position. Every company has their own methods and approaches to interviews, and we as recruiters screen and qualify all potential candidates before submitting CVs, but at present there’s no centralised system by which anybody can “guarantee quality”.

However, Upsilon’s deep knowledge and experience of the contractor market gives us a huge head start in knowing who to use, and more importantly, who not to use.

Whilst we can’t currently guarantee quality, what we can do is minimise the risk through our strict screening and onboarding SOPs for all contractors and permanent candidates.

All contractors must provide:

  • Valid personal ID/Passport – Right to Work
  • Company registration certificate
  • VAT certificate (if applicable)
  • Insurance documents (Professional Liability and Public Indemnity)
  • Academic and Medical certificates
  • ICH-GCP certificate
  • CRA certification (if applicable)
  • 3 endorsements from previous managers
  • Bank details

All permanent candidates must provide:

  • Valid personal ID/Passport – Right to Work
  • Academic and Medical certificates
  • ICH-GCP certificate
  • CRA certification (if applicable)
  • 3 endorsements from previous managers

Ensuring we have these details on file enables us to verify their backgrounds and working history in a number of ways.

  1. By gaining testimonials from previous managers/colleagues, we aim to discuss and verify both the quality of their work and their attitude towards their work and their former colleagues/managers.
  2. We look for any “red flags” or inconsistencies between their CV/documents and cross-reference this against what they’ve told us during their screening and qualification calls
  3. We check that their GCP and insurance documents are up-to-date
  4. We verify they are legally registered to work in their local country, have filed all appropriate registrations and have legal means of receiving payment

We also conduct routine audits to ensure all contractors and UG compliant and all documents are up-to-date and securely logged in our CRM. Working in this way helps us to offer greater peace of mind to all our partners when conducting recruitment searches.
